Dunedin, last night. At the inquest on tho body of Alfred Smith, who shot himself last night, a verdict was returned of suicide tyhile temporarily insane. Deceased was engineer with Messrs McGavin, Smith, and Co., brewers, and had been drinking somewhat heavily of late. His brother-in-law walked home part of the way with him, and when he asked him about tho gun he said he was going out shooting next da}’, and invited his brother-in-law to go with him. The latter stopped to have a look at a dance going oh. Whon ho reached the house bis sister asked him to go to the room, saying that Smith was foolishly discharging blank cartridges. On going in he foßDfi that Smith was dead.
