Legislation Affecting Women.

RESOLUTIONS FORWARDED TO WELLINGTON. Last week the Executive of the National Council of Women forwarded the following resolution to Mr Hornsby, M.H.R. : “ That while thanking Mr Hornsby for his good intentions towards the women workers of the colony, as evidenced by the Bill for tho ‘ prevention of the employment of women in dangerous trades,’ tho Executive of the National Council of the Women of New Zealand desires to affirm its strong objection to any legislation which will add to the number of women’s disabilities. It considers that restrictions should bo placed on the trades themselves with a view to rendering them harmless to the workers, regardless of sox. It is of opinion that any legislation for women should be to free the avenues of all honorable occupatP and to obtain for women the full reward of their work.” The Executive of the Gisborne Women’s Political Association and of the local Council of Waiapu Women sent resolutions to a similar effect. i The Gisborne Women’s Political Association, the local Council of Women, and the Cook County Liberal Association, with many other Associations throughout the colony, have also memorialised both Houses of Parliament to “ take such legislative action as may be necessary during the present session of Parliament to provide for the direct election of the members of Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards by the electors of the colony.”
