PERSONAL.

Mr W. J. Frankham, business representative of the Kauri Timber Company, arrived from Auckland on Sunday by the Te Anau. Ho returns north to-morrow. Mr McLaurin, of the Auckland Customs Department, arrived by tho Te Anau on Sunday to relieve Mr E- W. Pasley. Mr McLaurin, who is a brother of Mr W. J. McLaurin, of Pouawa, will remain in Gisborne for two or three months. It is not yet known who will bo permanently appointed as collector at Gisborne.

Mr J. A. Harding received the following telegram from the Premier yesterday “1 am very happy to inform you that I have just received a cable from Colonol Porter, stating that all who were wounded in the late engagement have either recovered or are quite out of danger. — B. J. Seddox.” Saturday evening last, at Tokomaru, a smoke concert was tendered to Troopers J. Gordon and F. Bruce, on the occasion of their return from South Africa. The gathering was held in the To Puka Hotel, Mr W. Oates presiding. An excellent spread was provided by Host Martin, and ample justice was done to the good things on the table. Tho usual loyal toasts were proposed. In responding to that of “The Army,” Troopers Gordon and Bruce gave an interesting account of the wa., but admitted they were glad to be back in Tokomaru again. Both stated that should a similar war occur they would again volunteer for service. Songs were sung during the evening by Messrs Healey, McLaughlin, Wilson, and others, and a pleasant evoning terminated at midnight.
