SIXTY MILLION LOAN.
WAR COSTING 1J MILLIONS A WEEK. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, August 2. The Sixty Million Loan Bill has passed tho Committee. Lord Stanley stated that between April Ist to the end of July the war cost twentyfive and three-quarter millions. The expenditure in July was a million and a-quarter per week. LOAN WILL SUFFICE TO FEBRUARY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Received August 2, 11.10 p.m. London, Aug. 2. Speaking on tho Loan Bill, Sir Michael Ilicks-Bcach said that the sums voted for tho war would suffice till the middle of February, and longer if tilings went well. It was, ho said, unlikely that it would be necessary to borrow again this financial .year. Already the war expenditure has been considerably reduced, while there is reason to anticipate a larger reduction soon.
This remark is interpreted in the lobbies to mean the early recall of forty thousand troops.
