Independent Order of Rechabites.
OPENING OF STAR OF NEW ZEALAND TENT.
Thk zeal displayed by Bros. M. G. Nasmith, jun., C.R., P. S. A. Georgeson, P.C.R., and A. W. Kirk, P.C.R., of the Gisborne Tent, in the matter of the formation of a Female Reehabite Tent in Gisborne, bore fruit yesterday afternoou, when the above tent was opened. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Canon Webb, P.C.R., assisted by Bros. Nasmith, Georgeson, and Kirk. Twelve candidates in all were initiated. The officers were installed as follows: Past Chief Ruler, Bro. M. G. Nasmith, jun. ; Chief Ruler, Sister I. Georgeson ; Deputy Ruler, Sister J. Heaney; Treasurer, Sister A. Carson ; Secretary, Sister W. Wallace; Assistant Secretary, Sister Ada Nasmith; Right and Left Supporters of Chief Ruler, Sisters N. Birch and K. Hickey ; Book Steward, Sister R. Butler; Cash Steward, SisterD. O’Connor; Levite, Sister Alice Nasmith; Guardian, Sister J. McDowell.
Bro. Rev. Canon Webb gave an address on the principles of the Order, and after congratulating the officers on the formation of the tent, the tent was closed with the ordinary ceremony.
A meeting of the Gisborne Tent, No. 54, 1.0. R., S.N., was held in the Tent room last evening, Bro. M. G. Nasmith (junr.), C.R., presiding. The balance-sheet and auditors’ report for the past quarter were received and adopted. Tho balance-sheet showed funds as follows,": —District funeral fund, receipts X 3 I6s sd, expenditure X 3 16s 5d ; sick fund, receipts X 133 12s, expenditure XI 13s 4d ; contingent fund, receipts X 22 10s Bd, expenditure Xll os 5d ; total funds, X 153 3s lid. Seven memI bers joined during the quarter, tho total 1 number of members in good standing now being 31. A complimentary ticket was received from the Oddfellows (Manchester Unity) for their social to bo held on August 15th. It was decided that Bro. A. Pool, P.C.R., represent the Tent. A ticket was also forwardod from the Star of New Zealand Tent for their social this evening, and Bro. H. Webb, P.C.R., was authorised to avail himself of the invitation.
Bro. W. Birch tendered his resignation as Treasurer. The resignation was accepted with regret, and Bro. J. Georgeson was elected to fill the vacancy. Two new members were initiated and another proposed. It was resolved that in future the Tent meetings be held in Townloy’s Hall.
A meeting of the Ballance Tent, No. 12, 1.0. R., S.N., was also hold last evening, Bro. W. Bloomfield, P.C.R., in tho chair. Tho balance-sheet fo.i tho last half-year was presented and adopted. It showed the funds standing as follows: —District funeral fund, receipts X 9 3s 2d, expenditure X 8 17s Sd ; sick fund, receipts Xls 6s 2d, expenditure nil. Contingent fund, receipts Xll 14s 4d, expenditure X 4 10s 3d ; total funds X 22 15s 9d. Tho number of members totalled 24. An invitation ticket was received from tho Star of New Zealand Tent, and it was resolved that Bro. W. Quigley represent tho Tent. It was also resolved that the Tent meet in future in Townlcy's hall..
