The County Chairman lias been requested to bring before the Councils’ Conference a suggestion for equalising county with municipal powers in this regard. A proniient defect is inability to declare a special rating area for such drainage except on a petition, which is not likely to be presented. Wellington, last night.
The Taranaki and Nelson Acclimatisation Societies have responded to Mr Ayson’s circular on the subject of the importation of big game, agreeing to contribute X'loo each. Christchurch, last night. Mr William Chrystall, of Chrystall and Co., the well-known merchants, died unexpectedly last night after a brief illness.
