Sydney, July 1. A heavy southerly gale is raging." The steamer Manly, with thirty passengers 1 left Manly last night for Sydney, and broke down between the Heads. She drifted to within 100 yards of her destination before she was picked up, and towed to an anchorage. Subsequently, she drifted ashore near Manly. The passengers were rescued at 3 o’clock this morning with some difficulty. It is the wildest sea ever experienced in Sydney Harbor. Balliua Post Office reports that tho tug Protector was capsized whilst crossing the bar, and tho crew of five were drowned. The tug has broken up. Shell Harbor reports that the tug Warwick is ashore on Long Point. Olio man got ashore. It is impossible to reach the others. A big sea is running. Hobart, July 1.
The Royal Arthur encountered boisterous weather on the voyage from New Zealand. A boat was swept from the davits.

SAD LOSS OF LIFE.
A TUG STRUCK BY A HUGE WAVE. TURNS COMPLETELY OVER, By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, July 1. The Manly has been floated. Sho was only slightly damaged. The Alexander Berry was insured for j£soo in tho South British. Four of the crew were drowned and one saved.
The tug Protector had a passenger, name unknown, drowned. All the crew aro married. The affair was sudden. A huge sea struck the craft broadside and turned her completely over. For a while the tug was bottom up, and then disappeared.
There is a tremendous sea on tho coast It is blocking the shipping.
