DOUBLE-BARRELLED OPPOSITION

(By Telegraph —Press Association.) New Plymouth, last night.

At the annual meeting of the Licensing Bench to-day, an application for a new license in New Plymouth in place of one allowed to lapse at Bell Block, four miles away, was vigorously opposed. A strong bar was engaged. Dr Findlay, for the licensed victuallers, and Mr A. R. Atkinson, for the prohibition-party, opposed the application, and Messrs Govett, Weston, and Southey Baker appeared for the applicants. Lengthy arguments ensued on the peculiar' point of law involved. Intense interest is excited in the case, which ha 3 not yet concluded.
