(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, last night. Johnston’s Hotel and King’s boardinghouse, Coromandel, were destroyed by fire, including the contents of the hotel. King’s furniture was saved.
Palmerston North, last night. A lad named McKenzie, aged 15, dropped dead at Ashhurst last evening. Wellington, last night. George J. Eden, an old jailbird, alias Dr Reid, who had pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court, was sentenced by the Chief Justice this morning to three years’ hard labor on several charges of forgery. The Gear Meat Company have declared a half-yearly dividend of 3 per cent.
Patea, last night,
The West Coast Refrigerating Company, formed for the purpose of freezing and storing dairy produce at Patea, met yesterday. It was reported that support was forthcoming very satisfactorily. It was decided to call for tenders for tho erection of works and other necessary machinery. The works are to be pushed on without dolay.
Oliristchuroh, last night,
The Canterbury Frozen Meat Company and Christchurch Frozen Meat Company have each given £BS for the erection of a frozen meat arch in connection with the reception of the Royal visitors.
