Public Abattoirs.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —Do not become alarmed about the Domain reserve. We butchers do not wish to procure as a site for abattoirs what the Cemetery Trustees have already rejected as a cemetery, but we do protest against being forced into a position that would both interfere with our liberty and prevent us from doing justice to our customers. Let the Council erect abattoirs, and we will pay the required fees. If the Borough Councillors try to force us to accept such a position as Mr Shelton offers to place us in, it will be about time for the Gisborne public to forward such a numerously-signed petition that the Council will meet the meat suppliers fairly, and erect abattoirs for the trade, as is done in other districts. —I am, etc., Geo. Howarth. Makaraka, May 31.
