Powder Explosion.
A YOUNG MAN’S THRILLING EXPERIENCE,
By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night. A sensational incident is reported from Whitford. John Ernest Sutcliffe was lifting a four pound packet of blasting powder, when some fell on a candle. He at once threw the parcel from him. A terrible explosion occurred, some woodwork in the room being wrenched and broken. The young man’s clothes were set on fire, his hair singed, and his arms scorched, but his conditions is not considered dangerous.
