The Conciliation Board was engaged to-day hearing a dispute filed by tho Napier Painters’ and Decorators’ Union, The Wellington Amalgamated Painters’ and Decorators’ Union, which is already working under an award of the Arbitration Court, sent its secretary to oppose the hearing of tho case, on the ground that Napier being part of tho Wellington Industrial District came within the scopo of the award already made by the Court with respect to Wellington Union, which award will expire in July next. The Board, after hearing further argument, recommended that the Board strongly advises the withdrawal of dispute, and that if later on there should bo dispute in connection with this industry in this district, Unions or Associations of employers preferring it should agree to submit claims that will bo fair on the several parts of the district. Then the Board could visit the different parts of the district and collect information as to conditions puavailing in the several parts, and make a recommendation in which if necessary there should bo difforentriation to meet the needs of the several parts. The Napier representatives agreed to this recommendation.
