DEPARTURE Of REV- FATHER MULVIHILL-
The ' Rev. Father Mulvihill leaves Gisborne this morning on>. a tour of tho Islands, and thence to Australia for tho benefit of his health, which of late has, we regret to state, been failing him. During the three years ho has been in Gisborne, tho rev. father has by his earnest and zealous work and his kindly disposition, mado friends on all sides, being endeared to the members of his Church, and being much esteemed by persons of all denominations. Prior to his departure a surprise visit was paid to the Presbytery, the deputation of members of tho congregation being headed by Mr James Martin, who was asked to preside. A beautiful illuminated address was presented, accompanied by a purse of a hundred sovereigns. Mr Martin referred in warmly appreciative terms to the work, of the rev. father, and expressed-the Seartfelt wish of the congregation that the rev. father might soon bo restored to tho full vigor of health. Father Mulvihill feelingly replied, expressing his gratitude for the good wishes, the beautiful address, and for the accompanying gift. He said that he had spent a very pleasant time in Gisborne, and was much gratified to see the progress that had been made by the Church, in the interest of which tho congregation had worked so well together. In the course off his remarks he made thankful reference to the assistance given by the Rev. Father O’Connor, and tho latter made a few remarks in response. The illumination of the address was the work of Mr E. O’Meara, and was very much admired. The signatures of the members of tho Church Committee were appended on behalf of the congregation. Another graceful act of recognition of the work of the Rev. Father Mulvihill was made last night by the Children of Mary, who attended at the Presbytery, and presented the Rev. Father with an address and a purse of sovereigns. The address was signed on behalf of tho Children of Mary, by Miss M. O’Connor (President), Clare Buchanan (secretary), and A. McCabe (Treasurer), and was presented by Miss O’Connor. In reply, Father Mulvihill referred in terms of gratitude to the many kindnesses he had received.
