CRITICISING THE COUNCIL.

(To the Editor.) Silt, —Wo have now got a new Borough Council, but I doubt if it is to be congratulated ou its first act, the publication of a typhoid fever scare report. Tf the Council was responsible for the publication of that report, its first act must be placed to its discredit. Some people seem very keen on giving Gisborne a bad name as a fever town; even Mr Justice Conolly gave voice to the supposition from the Bench the other day. Many people are being scared into typhoid fover patients—more get it from fright than from germs, and tho new Council has something to answer for in allowing such reports to bo scattered broadcast, though it is desirable they should be obtained for Council use. Papers that publish such reports also have something to answer lor. The position is much the same as the people who tried to get up a plague scare in Auckland.—l aui, etc., Elkctok.
