AUCKLAND NEWS.
BURGLARY AT WAIHI. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Auckland, last night. A burglary occurred at tho Rob Roy Hotel, Wailii. At six o’clock in tho morning the safe was found in a yard near tho doorstep. A ladder and barrow wore found near the safe, which had not been opened or marked, and which contained £35, mostly in silver. Tho bar had also been entered, and £1 in silver taken out; nothing else was touched. The back door was always left open for the boarders’ use. Mats and bags had been placed on the floor to deaden the sound. It is generally believed that some professional cracksmen arc in Wailii. BURGLARS IN AUCKLAND. This morning it was discovered that one of Messrs E. C. Browne and Co.’s mercery shops in Queen street had been broken into, and a quantity of stock and cash stolen. An entrance was effected by means of a window at the back. This is’ the second time within a couple of months this firm has been victimised by burglars.
