THE SUITOSED MURDERS. l!y Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Brisbane. April 22. The Home Secretary lias received a message from the Hon. John Douglas, Special Commissioner for New Guinea, covering a message from the Government resident. He gives the scene of the supposed massacre as Uaorihata Island, at the mouth of the Aird river. The party lauded, intending to return to the Mission schooner in half an hour, but have not been seen since. Later in the day the schooner was surrounded by a Hoot of canoes. The natives removed all the food, clothes, and tools, but did not touch the crow. The schooner cruised about till the following .day, and then left for Port More by. Mr Douglas adds that there is a possibility that the missionaries are still prisoners in the hands of the natives, but that is not in accordance) with their habits. Still it is difficult to account for the fart that when they looted the schooner the crew were not touched. The list of those supposed to he murdered is Revs. Chalmers and Tomkins, a halfcaste named James Walker, chief of the Kavas tribe, and nine colored mission students.
