GOLF.
The season opened on Saturday. In the morning a match was played from sides picked by the captain and secretary; the captain's side had rather an easy win. In the afternoon eleven couples entered for the foursomers : Miss Mason and Cuthbert 91—5 —86 ; Miss Cooper * and G. Bull 93—5—88; Miss Brown and H, Bull 93—5—88; Mrs O’Meara and Faram 108—5 —103; Miss Adams and Maun 107 —sob —lo7 ; Mrs King and Dobbie 10C — sch —108 ; Mrs Bull and Willock 113—5 —IOB ; Mrs L. Rees and Grant 11C—5— 113 ; Miss Willis and Hookey, and Mrs Willock and Watson, cards not given in. The scores for the first three place were very close, Mr Cuthbert and Miss Mason gaining pride of place by a couple of strokes. This was Miss Mason’s first appearance on the links, and she is to be congratulated on her win. Afternoon tea was given by Miss May Rees and Mrs A. Rees, and was greatly appreciated by the players. Mr Barnes-Graham, who has just returned from a trip to England, has presented four clubs to be played for. A club will be given to the player making the best score aga : nst Bogey during the months of May, June, July, and August. Mr Morgan, the captain, has also presented a prize, value <£l Is, for beginners in both the ladies’ and gentlemen’s clubs.
