RIFLE SHOOTING.
In the Gisborne R ; fles and Whataupoko Band match the Rifles won, their scores being 424 against 329. The highest scorers for the Band were McK'llop, McGilivray, Paore Keiha, Dawson, and Engelbretsen. Franklin won the trophy, being the highest scorer for the Rifles. In the class matches the scores were : A (Mrs Steele’s trophy), Franklin (1) 26, Stewart (1) 26, Wakelin (scr) 24, Taylor (scr) 22, Cru:kshank (2) 21, Williams (3) 21, Kemp (scr) 20, Bold (scr) 19, Sampey (2) 18, Captain Warren (scr) 18, Redward (2) 18, Black (3) 17, Wade (2) 16. Franklin and Stewart fired off three shots, and Stewart won by one point, the scores be'ng 8 end 7. B (Mr Bruce’s bridle), Doyle (1) 22, West (scr) 21, McGrath (2) 21, Skeet (1) 18, Mcllillop (1) 18, Featon (2) 13, Blakeley (1) 12, Henry (1) 5, and Latham (1) 3. Ci first prize forty rounds of ammunition, second thirty rounds, third twenty rounds : T. Gray (2) 17, Cooper (scr) 13, Jones (1) 13, Reed (2) 9, T. Taylor (scr) 8, File (scr) 6, Holmes (1) 5, Ebeling(3), J. P. Smith (2) 2. Reg. Skeet marked, and did the work well.
