A BIG FIRE AT ADELAIDE.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Adelaide, April 7. A fire at Martin and Company’s large drapery establishment caused great destruction of stock, valued at a hundred thousand pounds. Every' insurance company in the city is involved in the loss. The amount of the damage is not yet assessed. Later.—Martin’s- building and stock were valued at £115,000 and the damage at between seventy and eighty’ thousand pounds. The whole of the western wing of Martin’s large three-storey building was gutted by the fire. There was great- damage by water and smoke. The eastern wing is still smouldering-At the basement. One hundred and thirty ? employees and a number of customers Mglre inside the building at the time of The male employees lined ufmt the main entrance and assisted all the females to escaad before they themselves attempted to leave.
