WELLINGTON NEWS.

VOLUNTEERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night. The Wellington Volunteer Battalion lef on Thursday night for the Easter military manoeuvres at Wairarapa.

SHIPPING LAWS. A deputation from the Seamen’s Union waited on the Minister of Marino yesterday, and urged the consolidation of the amendments of the shipping laws. The Minister, in reply, said that, the Government had the matter in hand, and the Crown law officers had been busy at it now for some months. Government hopes to be able to put a consolidating moasure through the House next session. MR HORNSBY, M.H.R. Mr Hornsby has been addressing his constituents in the Wairarapa electorate, and received a vote of confidence at the first meeting. SURVEYORS’ CERTIFICATES.

The Surveyors’ Board has decided that surveyors should bo notified of the necessity of obtaining licenses before the 20th. A committee was set up to investigate tho license reciprocity to be adopted in examinations as between Australia and Now Zealand, so as to enable certificates issued in tins colony to have an Australian value. • APPOINTMENT OF CLERKS OF COURT. The appointment of tho following Clerks of Court has been gazetted :—J. M. Rodgers, Christchurch; E. D. Mosoly, Dunedin; H. Beattie, Waitara: J. W. Hart, Naseby. GAZETTE NOTICES. Regulations arc gazetted under the Shorthand Reporters’ Act, and notice also appears fixing tho number of councillors of each borough in the colony. NEW ZEALAND TROOPERS. The Premier has received tho following cable : —“ Trooper Bonner is convalescent, and Trooper Colin McDonald is doing well. THE HOLIDAYS. * Tho weather is beautifully fine to-day, and promises to continue so during the holidays. There has been a great exodus of people to country districts. SEVENTH CONTINGENT. The Gulf of Taranto berthed at the wharf last night. She appears to be a fine roomy vessel, and well suited for transport purposes. Tho Contingent are all ready to strike camp to-morrow.
