GALA DAY AT STRATFORD
TURNING FIRST SOD OF RAILWAY By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Stratford, last night. Perfect weather prevailed for the celebration of the turning of the first sod of the Stratford-Kawakawa railway. About 4000 people were present, including a large number of visitors who'arrived from New Plymouth and Hawera by special train. The whole town was gaily decorated with flags, arches, and evergreens. To-night it was brightly illuminated with numerous colored elecric lights and lanterns.- The Hon. Hall-Jones was driven to the site in an open landau, drawn by four greys, and-escorted by a detachment of mounted rifles, the processionTfollowing. In addressing the people on the ground Air Hall-Jones said that he expected to have the first train run through to Toko by Christmas. Air Hall-Jones is being entertained at a banquet tonight.
