THOROUGHBRED STOCK.
BIG SALE AT NAPIER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, last night. An important sale of thoroughbred stock took place to-day at Hastings. The To Mahanga yearlings were the first offered, and attracted buyers from all parts of tho colony. Fair prices were given for most of tho stock, though in most eases the animals went well within their value, and in some instances agents acting on behalf of outside buyers secured yearlings at much below the limit to which they were prepared to go. A very fine filly by Mahaki—Melinite, topped the sale, and went to Mr J. T. Moore, of Kai Iwi, Wanganui, at 165 guineas.
There was brisk competition for Tortulla’s full brother, who brought 150 guineas, and Penrose and Bush Rose’s full brother, whose price was 120 guineas. Some racing stock of Mr E. J. Watt’s was then put up, but the best of them, Indian Queen and St. Mark, failed to reach the owner’s reserves, and were passed in. A number of yearlings and two-year-olds from Mr S. H. Gollan’s Mangatarata Stud brought fair prices, though some of the lots were withdrawn owing to the animals not having properly recovered from an attack of strangles. The following are the prices realised for the
