CAPTURING- RATS.

Dr. Symos, Health Officer for Canterbury, has written to the Lyttelton Borough Council, ashing it to continue poisoning rats on the wharves, and to keep a number of ferrets for the destruction of rats. Dr. Symes has also asked the Christchurch City Council to resume the system of payment for dead rats. WAR FUNDS. A a meeting of the War Fund Com. mittee this afternoon, the balance-sheet showed that the total -receipts had amounted to over £14,235, and that after the despatch of the Canterbury section of the Seventh Contingent, a balance of £237 remained. It was decided to devote 175 guineas of the balance to proriding one Jubilee memorial relief representing the sending away of the Canterbury Contingent,
