A SYDNEY SENSATION.

EXHUMATION OF THE BODY OF A NEW ZEALAND PASSENGER.

WHISPERS OF DARK DOING,

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright

Sydney, March 3. Owing to certain suspicious circumstances coming to the knowledge of the city coroner, the body of P. Conway, a Dunedin passenger who died aboard the steamer Talunc on February 19th, was exhumed from the ltookwood Cemetery yesterday. An inquest was opened, but adjourned to Friday. It will be remembered that when the remains wore landed at Sydney the coroner dispensed with an inquest, tho cause of death being given as a fit, to which deceased was alleged to bo subject.

Tho authorities are very rcticont in regard to the matter, the coroner intimating that it was not in the interests of justice to publish the ovidonco at present. The police refuse to give any information, but inquiries in other directions indicate that tho police are acting upon rumors amongst other passengers that the circumstances surrounding Conway’s death arc not altogether consistent with natural causes.

Statements have also been made that Conway was supposed to have certain valuables in his possession, but search of the luggage failed to discover thorn.
