With regard to the Riverside Road, the Chairman thought that if the Board bogau to do any protective works they would have to carry it right along that part of tho road. He contended that the money it would cost would bo much bettor spent on gravel to fill up tho holes on tho road. Members were generally of opinion that it would be too expensive to carry out tho railing right along tho road, and favored tho suggestion of tho Chairman to fill up the holes with gravel. On tho motion of Mr Joyce, seconded by tho Chairman, it was resolved*that a solicitor’s opinion bo taken as to a by-law for regulating heavy traffic on tho roads. Messrs Siovwright and Joyco wero appointed a committee to enquire into the matter. An account for tally work gave rise to an interesting discussion as to whether a moro economical system could be adopted. Mr Joyco, who startod the discussion, said ho did not object to tho account, but he thought that unless thoro wero tlireo or more teams going it would bo wiser to havo the metal placed in depots than to have to incur tho expense of a tallyman. The Chairman said it was a matter of figures as to which was the bettor course, but thoro wore disadvantages in whatever plan was adopted. As to tho contract undor notice, ho did not sec how it could possibly be dono in time, and tho penalty of 10s a day would moro than pay for tho tallyman per day.
