Mr C. Nicholson, late proprietor of the Record Reign hotel, is at present visiting Gisborne.

Miss Walworth is acting temporarily as postmistress at Waipiro Bay until a successor to Miss Erskine is appointed. Mr H. Miller, who represented the Gisborne Lodge of Druids at the Conference at Palmerston North, roturned from Auckland on Sunday. Mrs Arini Donnelly and Archdeacon S. Williams, of Hawke’s Bay, have each given £IOO to the Victoria Memorial School for Native girls, at Auckland. The sum wanted to thoroughly equip the school is £IO,OOO. Mr C. Knox, of the Waikoto staff of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company, is at present doing relieving duty in Gisborne in place of Mr Bunny, who, we regret to state, is still down with typhoid fever.

At Waipiro, on Friday evening last, a social was given to Mr Swinnerton, a popular resident, and Miss Erskine, both of whom are leaving Waipiro to start life together in the Whatatutu district. Although the night was wet ■ and rough, there was a large attendance. Mr Swin'nerton has acted in the past as M.C. at the local dances, and it was felt that his presence would be greatly missed, whilst Miss Erskine will be equally missed both in her official and social capacities.
