The championship singles started on (he Tennis Club’s courts on Kaiti yesterday afternodn resulted as follows
Ladies’ singles, the best of three vantage sets: Bliss Pasley boat Bliss N. Crawford, 6—2, 6—2; Bliss 81. Rees forfeited to Bliss Adams; Blrs L~. Rees to Bliss N. Reynolds; Bliss Staite to Blrs Watson.
The sgcpnd round vyill be played on Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, when Miss Pasley meets Miss Adams, and Bliss Reynolds meets Blrs Watson.' The final will be played later in the afternoon. / In the first round of the gentlemen’s singles, the best .of 5 vantage sets, S. Brown beat E. J. Chrisp, 6—3, 7—5, 6—3; Grant beat J, Grey, 11—9, 7 —5,6 —2; Hatarabeat Timu Tiinu, 6—B, 6—l, 6 —4; A. W. Rees beat GarKck, : 6-r3, '6 —1,5 — 711—9.

The third round and final will be played on Saturday afternoon, starting at 2 p.m., when W. L. Coleman meets Barlow, and Rees meets either G. Grant or S. Brown, who will play their match in the second round to-day. The final, which- will probably be between A. W. Rees and W. J. Barlow, is likely to be very exciting, and a really good match should be witnessed.
