The “Salting” Case.
STIFF, SENTENCES FOR CONSPIRATORS. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Greymouth, last night. I The Foley’s Creek salting case has occupied the District Court since Friday. The case closed this afternoon. Judge! Ward summed up strongly against ac-i cused. The jury, after a short deliberation,! returned a verdict of guilty against thfc accused, George Larson, William Lawson 1 , and Edward Pring, with a strong rocomjmendation to- mercy on behalf of tlPe latter. An application for probation bjy counsel was refused by the Judge, wh o sentenced both the Lawsons to two yearjs’ imprisonment each. Pring was all owed twelve months’ probation, being tho dupe of the others. Tho verdict afiorded groat satisfaction - !. The Court was crowded each day. iVfr Hannon was the Crown Prosecutor. ijlr Guinness appeared for the defence. j
