A Sad Accident.

A sad accident occurred last night, by which Branchman Benjamin Berry, of the Christchurch Fire Brigade, lost his life. \ The Brigade was called out to attend a small tiro at Sydenham. Just ns the dole go steamer had left tho station, Berry attempted to mount it while it was in motiorfc Ho missed his hold, find fell. The hind wheel of the engine and reel wont over his stomach, mangling him frightfully. He was got into a cab, but expired before reaching tho hospital. .Deceased was thirty-five years of age, and 1 leaves a wife and six young children. Ho was one of the smartest men in the Brigade, of which he had been a member for ten years. Ho was very energetic in assisting anything for charity. An inquest was held to-day, and a verdict of accidental death was returned, with a rider to tho effect that notices should be posted at stations, warning fircmon not to get on engines in motion.
