[by telegraph— pbess association.] Melbourne, Fob. 16.
The Federal Cabinet has authorised tho issue of the writs for holding the Queensland Federal elections on March 30th. The dates for the other colonies have not yet been fixed. The Age says that by the refusal of tho Government to accept the Eastern Extension Company's contract, the colony is penalised by over £50,000 per annum, having to pay the old cable charges. Already one agency is doing a large business in sending cables to Sydney aud Adelaide, whence they' aro redirected to London. Another agency is being formed.
