Marconi, by means of a mast 60ft high, sent a wireless telegraph message from St. Catherine’s Point, Isle of Wight, to Lizard Point, a distance of 200 miles. An explosion at the Chilworth gunpowder works, Guildford, Surrey, killed six, the only workmon in the building. Over twenty-live million pounds was subscribed for British exchequer bonds. The price averaged L 97 5s 4d.
Sir Edward Satow, British Minister at Pekin, has informed Chinn that Great Britain declined to recognise tho obscure official Changpossi as an envoy to condole with the nation on tho death of tho Queen and congratulate the King on his succession.
A Reuter correspondent states that the. son of a member of the Moscow Secret Police committed suicide when selected from a group of conspirators to attempt the Czar’s life. Numerous arrests have been made in connection with tho plot. Lard Marjorie Cecilia Carrington, eldest daughter of Baron Carrington, was married to the eldest son of Mr C. H. Wilson, member of tho House of Commons for Hull. There were four hundred presents, including a magnificent diamond torquoise brooch from the King and Queen.
