General Synod.
THE PRIMATE.
TO GO AS CHAPLAIN FOR THE TROOPS. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Napier, last night. At the General Synod to-day the Primate, who had been at the reception of the Imperial troops, and was wearing his Lucknow and Afghan medals, said that among the regiments represented were several to which lie had been chaplain. There was no chaplain with the force, and on learning that the Premier had offered him a free passage in the Britannia to England. He did not like the troops going home without a chaplain, and with the consent of the Synod he would accept the offer.
Leave was granted with acclamation. The other business mainly consisted of confirmatory resolutions.
Votes of thanks were - accorded to officers of the Synod and for tho hospitality received.
The report of the Board of Theological Studies was adopted. This mainly dealt with the educational qualifications of candidates for holy orders, but it was also carried that the Board set up a committee of three to examine Sunday.school teachers on the lines" suggested by the Auckland Sunday-school Board.
