BITING A MAN’S EAR.
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Christchurch, last night. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day Richard Wilson was charged with biting a piece out of Thomas Downes’ lip, and was remanded .till next day. The case arose out of an assault last week, when Downes was set upon in the street, and afterwards taken to the hospital. There was a piece of lip missing. The piece was afterwards found in the gutter, and an endeavor was made to graft it on. DEATH OF A NEW ZEALAND TROOPER. News has been received of the death of Corporal Campbell Parkinson, of the Third Contingent, at Pretoria, from enteric. He was a son of the late J. H. Parkinson, and a very popular member of the Canterbury Yeomanry Corps. When the troops were in camp here he got the prize for best rider in the camp. •VISITING PRELATES.
