PERSONAL.

Dr Davis arrived in Gisborne last week, and left for the Coast by the Omapcrc, to take up the East Coast medical practice. The Hon. James McGowan, Minister of Minos, and Mr Allen, M.H.R. for Waikouaiti, are at present visiting Mercury Bay. Amongst those who took part in the procession in Gisborne on Memorial Day was Mr lan Simson, who represented the Government Valuation Department. The beautiful floral tribute placed on the Queen’s hell-tower on Memorial Day on behalf of the Civil Service was thoughtfully supplied by Mr W. A. Barton, S.M. The holders of the New Zealand war medals who took-part in the procession on Memorial Day, and fired the volleys, included Mr Andrew Graham, a gentleman who had done excellent service for his country in the early days of the colony. A telegram from Auckland states "that Trooper O’Sullivan, who met with an accident on the day of the departure of the Sixth Contingent, is still in the hospital, but is making favorable progress towards recovery.

Prior to Colonel Banks taking his departure for South Africa the committee of the Auckland Racing Club invited the veteran to the A.R.C. officer to accept a purse of sovereigns at their hands, as some slight recognition of the valuable services which he has rendered to the club as judge for so many years.

Mr A. T. Pittar contemplates building a new yacht to replace the Rainbow. She will probably be a 38-footer, and of the fast cruiser type, somewhat on the lines of Heather and Petrel, recently built by Messrs Logan Bros., of Auckland, for Sydney. ’ Mr James Erouse, who visited the Motu on behalf of the Settlers’ Association to report on the timber industry, is a brother of Mr John Prouse, the famous singer. Although not a singer, Mr James Prouse has received numerous requests to take payt in local optical entertainments."
