Otarama Fracas.
NO EVIDENCE YET AS TO WHO STABBED GIBBS. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Dunedin, last night. An inquest on the body of James Gibbs, greasor on the Otaraina, who died from wounds received in a free fight, was opened to-day. The evidence so far given does not tend to show conclusively who struck the blow. There was no light in the place at the time—only the reflection of a lamp in the firemen’s quarters. Two of the witnesses speak of seeing a figure approaching Gibbs, who sang out, “I’m stabbed.” Kunst, who is in custody, -was at this time engaged in a struggle with three firemen. No one appears to have seen Thompson, the other accused, who, according to another witness, had retired to bed before the row. The inquest will be resumed to-morrow.
