BOERS ATTACK A TRAIN,

THEIR COMMANDANT SHOT,

A party' of Boers attacked a train standing at a station on the Delagoa Bay line. The driver of the train shot Commandant Librandt dead whilst he was tampering with the vacuum brake. The rest oi the Boers then tied.

General Smith-Dorricn dispersed the Boers around Carolina. The British had four killed and eighteen wounded. General Knox engaged DeWet forty miles north of Thabanchu and prevented his attempt at re-invasion of the Cape. The Boers entered Bodsburg on the 29th and damaged the Modderfontein and Vanryu mines. Commandant Mathais and two Boers were captured. Forty Boers attacked fifteen Yeomanry at Gammaga Pass, and fled in the direction of Calvinia, after sustaining losses.

Owing to the bluejackets and -West Indian soldiers quarrelling the latter were placed in the barracks, where they mutinied, but finally under threat of the Gloucestcrs’ artillery fire, the mutineers surrendered.

The Commissioner at Kroonstadt has obtained evidence of an eye-witness that Commandant Froncman cruelly sjamboked peace envoy Morgandaa'l on the 10th, when De Wet ordered him to be shot.

Froneman then shot Morgandaal with out a trial.
