Our Waerenga-a-hika correspondent writes :—At a meeting of the committee, held at the Vicarage on Tuesday night, it was decided to hold the Church Fete on Thursday, February 28th, instead of on February 7th, as previously arranged. Extensive preparations are being made to ensure the success of this popular gathering. There was some excitement in Gladstone road last evening. A horse attached to a brake got into a fractious mood and commenced to “play up,” managing to get across the pole. But Mr Ted ReUly, who was driving, did his work so well and coolly that the horse was soon in splendid work again. Mr Reilly’s handling of the horse elicited warm expressions of admiration. Constable Donovan arrived in town yesterday, having brought from Tologa Bay a Maori named Rori Porangi, who is supposed to be a lunatic.
