WELLINGTON RACES: THIRD DAY. INTERESTING DESCRIPTIONS. MISERABLE WEATHER: HAILSTONES. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night. Perhaps never in the history of racing in Wellington was a day’s racing conducted under more disagreeable circumstances than on Saturday. After the last race on Friday rain began to fall, and showers fell at intervals throughout the night and early in the morning. Shortly after daybreak there were occasional gleams of sunshine, and when the stewards met at 9-30 a.m. to consider the question of racing there was every appearance of the weather improving. Having decided to race, the stewards had the necessary notices posted over the town, and no sooner had a few of the more venturesome reached the course than the weather took a decided change for the worse. A fierce southerly gale blew’, with accompanying heavy showers of rain, and at times a violent hailstorm swept over the course. To minimise as far as possible the discomfiture of the jockeys and their mounts, the races were run in the intervals of the fiercest gusts, though the races were started fairly well to lime. Notwithstanding the handful of people present speculation was brisk, and £7003 was put through the machine, making £31,183 for the meeting, as against £29,743 at last year’s summer meeting. The following are the third day’s results: — Summer Handicap, 100 sovs; second horse 10 sovs from stakes; 7 furlongs. 172 Mr F.
