By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright A RIOT. Brisbane, Jan. 17. A riot of South Sea Islanders and Manila men occurred at Thursday Island. The former attacked the latter with sticks and stones. It is reported that one South Sea man was killed, and several are in a precarious state. The Islanders afterwards wrecked a jeweller’s shop. The military are in readiness in case of a further outbreak. MR SEBDON IN QUEENSLAND. Brisbane, Jan. 17. Mr Seddon, aboard the Government yacht Lucinda, welcomed the troops. At a banquet last night Mr Seddon stated that he was endeavoring to arrange a direct service between Queensland and New Zealand. He proposed “ Success to Queensland.” Mr Philp, replying, said if the request for ten thousand troops referred to in the press cables was correct, his State would contribute its quota.
