A SENSATIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
LILLYWHITE RECOGNISED AS BLATOH [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night. The sensational Blatch case was continued to-day. The prisoner went into tho box, and gave the history of his life, on similar lines to what he had previously stated. He produced letters from America, and a Crown grant for land in Tacoma that ho had occupied before the murder, also a certificate of membership of the Painters’ and Decorators’ Brotherhood of North America. He again denied that ho was the man wanted.
During the luncheon adjournment Lillywhite was shaved, and two English witnesses afterwards stated that after seeing him without his beard and hearing him give evidonce, they were prepared to say that tho prisoner was Blatch, the murderer. Mr Bell, for tha Crown, stated that he would to-morrow apply to the Deputy-Governor to have the warrant endorsed, and that during the day he would apply to the S.M. for the prisoner’s committal. The evidence of the English officials was then proceeded with, after whioh tho Court adjourned till the following morning.
