Harbour Board Election.
Nomination's for the four vacant seats on the Harbour Board are to be in by the 26th inst'. The retiring members are Messrs Chrisp, Hepburn, Cooper, and Captain Tucker. It is understood that all except Mr Chrisp intend’’ to seek-re-election, though none have yet made public announcement to that effect. Three new candidates are named—Messrs F. J. Shelton, A. F. Matthews, and A. Y. Ross. There is mention of other candidates, but so far there has been no definite statement. Mr Shelton has declared his policy, the declaration being of great interest to the ratepayers. The cardinal points are shipping facilities, accommodation for passengers, and regard for the best results in expending money—the last clause being the most important of all, that the finance should be worked with a view of abolishing the existing harbour rates and reducing the existing wharfage rates. Points like those are worthy of special alienlion,
