IMPERIAL AND INDIAN TROOPS.
PROPOSED VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND.
NEW ZEALAND TROOPS HIGHLY COMPLIMENTED.
[BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, last night. The first telegram from Mr Barton, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth, was received to-day by Mr Ward, thanking him for New Year wishes. Mr Ward has cabled to tho Secretary of State for the Colonies, asking that the Imperial and Indian troops now in Sydney should be allowed to visit New Zealand. Mr Ward proposes that they should first call at Auckland, and then visit all ports on the way to the Bluff. Fifty or sixty men now in Sydney will be added to the Sixth Contingent. Mr Ward understands that the Mayor of Dunedin has arranged to give the troops arriving by the Orient a fitting reception. Mr Seddon cables that the New Zealand contingents were highly complimented. They were given first position at night tattoo and in the procession, and they received an enthusiastic reception.
