At the Auckland Racing Club’s Summer Meeting on the fourth day the weather was fine and the attendance very large. The sum of £15,001 was ] assed through the totalisator, making £67,510 for the meeting. The following are the results: — Ascot Handicap, one mile: Lictitia 1, The Needle 2, Peerage 3. Time, lmin 15 2-ssec. Div., £2 ss. Auckland Plate, 1| miles: Advance 1, Hohoro 2. Only starters. Time, 2min 37 3-ssee. Div., £1 2s. Pony Handicap, five furlongs: Lena 1, First Whisper 2, Mamoa 3. Time, lmin 5 2-ssec. Div., £2 2s. [By Our Special Reporter.] Auckland, Wednesday. The attendance at tho races to-day was about six thousand. In tho Ascot Handicap six out of tho ton acceptors faced the starter, and Lictitia led from the start. Tho Needle made an effort in the straight, but failed, Lictitia winning by a length, with Peerage third, two lengths behind The Needle. In the Sylvia Handicap the five acceptors faced the barrier, and there was a struggle coming into the straight between Field Battery and Calibro. At the Derby Stand the former was collared, and Calibre won from him by a length, Crecy heading the ruck three lengths behind. In tho Grandstand Handicap the field was sent away well together, and the strugglo in the straight between Regalia 11. and Skobeloff was an exciting bit of racing. Skobeloff obtained the mastery opposite the Grandstand and came in a winner by a short head, Dayntree third. In tho Royal Stakes, out of twelve acceptors only threo numbers wont up, and the race resolved itself into a contest between the two southern sportsmen. It was ovident from tho start that tho race was Renown’s, who came in an easy winner by two lengths. In the Steeplechase nine horses started. Yoltigour fell at tho first hurdle, and his jockey, Burns, was severely hurt. Miss Drury had a long lead, but fell at tho hurdle on the hill and hurt her jockey. Tarrigan fell at tho last hurdle, and the contest between Cannongate and Nor’-West ended iu flie former’s favor by two lengths, with Dingo third. Tho Auckland Tlate was next to a walk over for Advance, as he never was extended, and tho Pony Race resulted in an easy win for the ex-Gisborno pony Lena. The totalisator receipts were highly satisfactory.
NAPIER RACES. Napiep., last night. Tho weather was again perfect for tho second day of the Jockey Club’s races. The attendance was good. The investments on the machine totalled £5244, making £10,G21 for tho two days. The results wore as under:— January Handicap, of 70 sovs; 1 mile.— St. Mark 1, Donovan 2, Whitirea 3. Fivo ran. Won by a short head. Time, lmin 43 2-sscc. Div., £2 11s. Scurry Handicap, of 50 sovs; 5 furlongs.— Hiainoc 1, Queen’s Signal 2, Mongonui S. Seven started. This race was won by ahead. Time, lmin 3 3-sscc. Div., £1 19s. Summer Handicap, of 110 sovs; IJmiles — Palaver 1, Sinus 2, Heiress 3. Six horses started. Won by a length. Time, 2min lOlsec. Div., £1 19s. Epsom Handicap, of 50 sovs; 1 mile.— Whitirea 1, Bonnie d’Eau 2, Tho Tinker 3. Won easily. Time, lmin 40 l-ssee. Div., £2 13s. Second Hurdles; of 50 sovs; 1$ miles.— Scallywag 1, Waitio 2, Moifa 3. Four horses ran. ’ Won by three lengths. Time, 3min 22 2-ssoc. Div., £2. Nursery Handicap, of GO sovs; 5J furlongs— Destroyer 1, Comfort 2, Kowhcte 3.. Six started. Won easily. Time, lmin 10 2-ssec. Div., £3 7s. Second Hack Handicap, of 50 sovs; 7 furlongs.—Passion Fruit 1, Warwick 2, Rags 3. Six started. Won with ease. Time, lmin 31 l-ssec. Div., £5 2s.
