It is also with pleasure I note the fact you proposo to launch your big canoe in tho coming year. Let mo hope the new century will be inaugural of a success that will not only specially crown your enterprise but be potential towards a general prosperity affecting alike the district, the people, and the colony. The strides with which the district has progressed, the growth of the population, the extended area of settlement, and our increased productiveness during the last few years fully justifies the support of two daily papers in the Bay. The public lam sure—and the two journals involved —will appreciate the good which must result from a healthy and legitimate rivalry in the matter of supplying news and information for their edification. We must ever advance with the times. “ Onward, onward, let us range. ■ Let the great world spin for ever down [ " The ringing grooves of change.” With the venture I have every desire for your success, and I feel confident- that you will paddle your bark triumphantly into the broad ocean of public approval.
