SOVIET AND ASIATIC REDS PLAN RALLY IN CEYLON
(10 a.m.) COLOMBO. Sept. 6. Leaders of the Soviet and Chinese labour federations, the All-India Trade Union Congress and the Communistdominated World Federation of Trade Unions will meet in Colombo on September 28 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Ceylon federation. Some delegates are already in India waiting for Ceylon visas, the granting of which is believed to be under consideration by the Ceylon External Affairs Ministry.
A manifesto issued by the Ceylon federation said the last day of the celebrations would be devoted to the all-Ceylon peace congress which would demand the withdrawal of nil foreign troops in Korea, the banning of the atom bomb and stopping of rearmament. Ceylon federation officials denied there was any intention of bolding a “secret meeting” of Asian Communists during the celebrations. Usually reliable sources said the talks to be held during the celebrations would probably bo a continuation of the discussions held in Peking in November. 1949.
The Ceylon Daily News said today: “It can hardly be doubted that the Communists intend to advance further in Ceylon the plans they have already made at Peking lor Asian revolutions. Ceylon so far has been almost the only oasis of tranquillity and order in troubled Asia."
