HARRIER CLUB’S HANDICAP RACE

A sealed handicap race of 5.8 miles over the Nelson Bridge course for the Dave Smith Trophy was held by 13 members of the Gisborne Y.M.C.A. Harrier Club on Saturday. Perfect weather prevailed and an improvement on last year's times was noted. Certificates were issued for the first three placings and fastest times. The handicap limit was lOmin. Sealed handicap placings were: T. Toye (Bmin.), 1; E. Sheppard (smin. 30sec.l. 2, D Miller (6min.), 3. Fastest times: R. Hawkins (33min. 52sec.), 1, J McKay i3smin. 13sec.), 2; D. Flavell (36min. 6sec.>, 3. Next Saturday the club will visit the Wairoa Harrier Club to compete in a 12-mile road relay race. Four teams of four runners will cover three miles each.
