MORE LEOPARDS WANTED

JOHANNESBURG.

Africa needs more leopards, according to experts here —but not for making women's coats. 1

The experts said that unless the leopard population can be. built up again, baboons and bush-pigs will become a mnior menace to agriculture.

“It has been realised, perhaps toe late.” said Mr. W. E. Landsdown, one expert, “that ieopards have provided the only effective means in the animalkingdom of keening the dog-faced baboons in check.” Now these raiders are destroying many tons of various crops. In the north-eastern Transvaal, bushnigs are creating havoc in the corn fields. Leopards, even farmers fed, would be a lesser menace.—Reuter.
