Island Woman's Life Saved By Mercy Flight
(10 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 26 The life of a 26-year-old Penhryn Island woman was saved by a mercy flight by a New Zealand Air Force Catalina' flying-boat from Suva to Penhryn
The plane returned to Suva late today after a round flight of 4600 miles by way of Western Samoa and Aitutaki.
Dr. T. A. Doran said that the case which involved dangerous complications following the difficult delivery of a child would probably have been fatal within 24 hours but for the arrival of surgical help from Suva. Dr. Doran was accompanied by a Fijian anaethetist. Uluilakemba and Sister M. T. O’Keefe of Dannevirke. He paid tribute to a Cook Islander. Tere Snowball, a graduate of the Central Medical School of Suva who has been stationed at Penhryn since December. An assistant medical practitioner. Tere. had made a accurate diagnosis and skilfullv treated the natient until the surgeon’s arrival. The Catalina was piloted by C. R. Grey.
