RUSH TRIP BY PETTY OFFICER TO DYING MOTHER

(P.A.) AUCKLAND. July 26. Hearing on Sunday night that his mother in Manchester, England, had been given until Friday to live, Petty Officer T. Templeton, of the British frigate Veryan Bay now in New Zealand waters, left Auckland yesterday afternoon to fly via Vancouver to his mother's bedside. He hopes to be there on Friday morning. He arrived in Auckland by train from Wellington yesterday. "I had word on Friday that my mother was to undergo an operation,” he said yesterday. "If it was successful, the doctors said, she might live for three months. On Sunday night I got word in Wellington that it was not successful. Mv captain, Commander J. F. R. Crels, immediately arranged leave _ and the airwavs booked me in a jiffy. _ Petty Officer Templeton arrived in New Zealand three weeks ago.
