Canterbury Urges Two-Fronted Scram
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 26. A two-fronted scrum and permission to play replacements are two of the alterations to Laws of Rugby suggested by the Canterbury Union.
The other suggestions are to allow players to pick up a tackled ball; to penalise a player kicking the ball into touch on the lull from outside his own 25 by having the ball thrown in from where he kicked; to relax the knockon rule; to allow attempts at conversions without a charge. These suggested alterations approved at a meeting last evening will be sent to the New Zealand Rugby Union and, if approved, will be forwarded to the International Rugby Board. It is suggested that if a player accidentally knocking on recovers the ball before it reaches the ground play be allowed to continue and that after a try has been scored the kicker be allowed to take the kick as for a penalty. If the recommendation concerning a two-fronted scrum is not adopted several suggestions affecting scrums anad hooking are recommended. Compulsory binding of theh scrum is also urged.
